Top Gig Economy Jobs of 2022 That Aren’t Ride-Share

Looking to make some extra cash, or abandon your normal 9 to 5 entirely for one of the many ‘gig’ jobs? Here are the best ones (according to consumer reports), how much you can expect to earn, and what you need to get started.

Food Delivery: Food delivery is expected to make up about 40% of total restaurant revenue this year. That means an army of food delivery drivers are needed, which means high demand. Major benefits of food delivery compared to ride-share is that you don’t have to deal with people, you don’t need a ‘newer’ car as some services require, and in some instances you can ‘stack; deliveries. Most services allow you to keep 100% of your tips, and you can expect to earn around $13/hr average.

Personal Tutor: Believe it or not, you don’t need a teaching degree to be an online tutor. Tutor.com allows sophomores in college to host classes, and with Outschool you can host multiple students and once and set your own rates! If you’re particularly savvy in a subject, and enjoy teaching, you can earn up to $18/hr hosting online teaching sessions.

Vehicle Rental Provider: Have a decent vehicle, but don’t want to spend late nights with strangers in it? Consider renting it out on Turo or Hyrecar! They let you list your car for rent on the days you aren’t using it, and provide insurance in case the renter gets into an accident! Some people have even gone so far as to buy a newer ‘fun’ car and just rent it out enough days per month to cover their payments. Its a great way to afford something new if you don’t drive a lot.

House-sitter: While some people have used house-sitting services like HouseSit Match to travel the world (getting matched with someone in need of a house-sitter where you’d like to vacation) you can also make great money doing it in your own neighborhood! Some house-sitting services do charge a fee as they run background checks, and do interviews to ensure you’re trustworthy, ZipRecruiter says you can still earn up to $34/hr.
