Every year, Kelly Blue Book puts out a list of the cheapest car to own based on the 5-years of ownership. The value is determined by how much below the average cost comes in for the market segment, but the interesting number is the actual total cost. Here are the absolute cheapest by 5-year cost to own according to KBB:
- Hyundai Venue: With 5-year cost to own of $30,555 this is by far the lowest SUV on the list and the cheapst overall.
- Subaru Forrester: At $39,473, its a bit pricier than the Hyundai, but Subarus are world renowned for their reliability and resale.
- Toyota Corolla: Coming in at $31,464, the Corolla is the cheapest car on the list. Toyotas have a well earned reputation for making reliable cars that are fun to drive, so this isn’t a surprise to see at the top of the list.
- Honda Accord: At $38,713, the Accord is pricier than the Corolla, but as a full-size vehicle, if you need the additional space it could be worth it.
- Nissan Leaf: The cheapest electric vehicle on the list comes in at $34,134. Its no Tesla in terms of performance or refinement, but if you’re looking for a great, practical EV at an affordable price this is one to look at.
