All Electric Vehicles Cheaper Than $40k

Electric cars are all the rage, and becoming more and more popular every year as charging stations become more available. The issue for many is the high-cost of an electric car but did you know there is a whole slew of EV’s that cost less than $40k? They may not have all of the bells and whistles of some of the top-end EV’s, but they’re excellent for someone with a daily commute thats within the vehicle’s battery range. Without further adieu, here are all of the EV’s for sale in the US with a sub-$40k MSRP:

  • Nissan LEAF: At $20,875, the LEAF has long held the title for cheapest EV, and although at this price you only get the 40kWh battery, its a great around-town EV for anyone looking to cut their reliance on gas.
  • MINI Cooper SE: The Mini is a fun little car, and with a starting price of $23,250 its a great entry-level EV that looks great!
  • Nissan LEAF e+ S: This is the upgraded version of the base LEAF, and it comes with a 62kWh battery. You will pay an extra $5k for this version, which brings the price to $25,875 but if you need the extra range, it may be worth it.
  • Hyundai IONIQ Electric: At $26,750, this is the cheapest electric offering from the Korean automaker. Its a sharp-looking vehicle, and will get you around town just fine.
  • Mazda MX-30: $27,145 is where this Mazda comes in, and comes with the legendary fit-and-finish that every Mazda is known for. A great entry-level EV.
  • Hyundai Kona Electric: Slightly pricier than the IONIQ, the Kona costs $27,685 but comes with a bit of additional equipment.
  • Nissan LEAF e+ SV: A more luxurious version of the base LEAF, this model comes with the same 62kWh battery as the S, and comes in at $30,875.
  • Chevy Bolt EV: At $31,995, this is the cheapest EV from an American automaker. The Bolt has been around for a while, and is quite popular among the EV enthusiasts.
  • Ford Mustang Mach-E Select SR: A bit pricier than the Bolt, Ford’s entry level EV costs $36,495 but has a bit more interior room.
  • Volkswagen ID.3 AWD Pro: The German automaker offers the ID.3 at $37,370. While not a large vehicle, a great car for getting around down town where parking space is at a premium.
  • BMW i3: BMW’s entry-level EV will set you back $37,945 so its a direct competitor to the VW.
  • Volkswagen ID.4 Pro S: The ID.4 offers quite a bit of additional interior space compared to the ID.3, but costs a bit more, coming in at $38,190.
  • Ford Mustang Mach-E Select SR AWD: An upgraded version of the base Mustang Mach E, this version comes with all wheel drive, and comes in at $39,195. A good option for those who live where it snows and want the confidence of AWD.
  • Polestar 2 Single Motor: Polestar is most well known as a tuner for Volvo, but they also make their own EVs. This example costs $39,700.
