Savings Tips For The New Year

The holidays can be rough on your bank account. You probably bought some gifts (maybe for people you didn’t even like) and maybe even took a trip that cost a bit more than you had planned. Now its back to reality, and time to buckle down start saving! Putting a few extra bucks in your bank account can be easier than you think, it just takes some planning and commitment. Here are our best tips for pinching pennies in the new year:

  1. Turn On Auto-Transfers: Your bank probably has the ability to set up recurring transfers. If you’re not doing this, you’re missing out on probably the easiest way to keep up with saving money. Just set up an amount you’re comfortable putting away on the same day your paycheck hits, and watch your savings grow!
  2. Get a Good Cash-Back Card: If you’re already spending money, you may as well get paid to do it. There are some incredible credit cards out there these days with as high at 6.5% cash back on certain purchases! Do some research, and see if theres a card that fits your needs. Even cards with annual fees can be a great value if you stand to earn significant cash-back.
  3. Learn to Cook: Let’s just be honest with ourselves. We spend way too much money ordering food and eating out. One of the best ways to spend less is to cook your own meals, and even do meal-prep so you’re not tempted to go out to lunch during work. Plus, you’ll probably end up eating a lot healthier, which can end up saving you even more money in the long run.
  4. Pick Up a Side Gig: Theres more to the Gig Economy than driving Uber (although that is a great way to earn extra cash). If you don’t feel like driving strangers around, theres any number of other opportunities such as walking people’s dogs, renting out your car if you’re not using it, or even renting out a portion of your property for RV storage if you have the space!
